City tour
From your apartment rental Dugi otok it is worth to take a day of your holidays to visit the town Zadar, in north Dalmatia. You will walk through the Old Town: a pedestrian-only, fishbone layout along the stone-tiled main drag known as Kalelarga.
Among the Renaissance, Baroque and medieval architecture, signs of modernity stand out with new shops; cafe-bars thumping with music while Croats sip coffee, rakia and wine.
Walk along the city walls, have a look at the 4 old entrance gates and reach the fish and vegetables market, full of colours and noise. Grab a terrace and sit at the bar and relax while looking out to the Riva, the seaside promenade on the western side, where families, lovers and locals walk, gossip and assemble for Zadar’s sunsets.
The Sea Organ, a combination art, musical architecture and science project , won the 2006 European Prize for Urban Public Space. Under stone steps, which disappear into the water, 35 pipes continually blow the notes of an unpredictable concert based on the sea’s undulations and the ensuing air pressure. It is a good place were to sit and relax. The Sun Salutation is situated next to the Sea Organ: there locals and tourists gather to look at the best sunset of the town.
The church St. Donat with its ground plan has to be visited: it was built in 9th century.
If you are still not tired and have interest there are the Ancient Glass Museum, the Archaeological Museum and the Museum of Church Art to visit.
